Continuous Casting is a process in which the metal is continuously solidified while being poured through a water cooled mold which determines cross sectional shape. Castings can be sawed off at any desired length.

  • Advantages

Continuous Casting allows manufacture of metal slabs or bars in large amounts in a short time. Mechanical properties are high and extremely reproducible.

  • Disadvantages

Only simple shapes can be cast which should have a stable cross section. Large capital investment is necessary to set up process. Not feasible for small production.
